6 Benefits of Wearing a Wireless Bra
In your effort to keep the girls perky and positioned evenly between your shoulder and elbow, you may choose a bra with an underwire. While underwire bras keep you properly positioned, there are a few health benefits of wearing a wireless bra. With the right wireless bra you can keep your breasts perky too!

Comfort
I don’t know about you, but underwire bras can be incredibly uncomfortable. Every woman’s body is unique so underwires won’t sit comfortably for every woman, or the comfort will vary greatly from one bra style to the next. Even if you find an underwire bra that is comfortable after you wash it a few times the wire can shift, or the padding can wear down and it can start poking in your sides. This can lead to discomfort, red marks, and bruising. With a wireless bra all of these discomforts are a thing of the past.
Proper Lymph Node Drainage
Our body has over 500 lymph nodes, which help to flush out harmful toxins. We have clusters of lymph nodes under each armpit that flush through our breasts. We also have lymph nodes along the breast bone as well. If your bra or clothing is too tight or restrictive, and worn for long periods of time, fluid may remain trapped in your breasts according to Dr. Joseph Mercola. This includes underwire bras, pushup bras, shapewear, tight clothing, and some workout apparel. Because the toxins in the breast are not able to flush out they can remain trapped in the breasts which is not a good thing.

Highlight Your Natural Beauty
While you want your bras to provide shape and maybe have a bit of padding so that they lay smoothly underneath your clothing, many underwire bras are designed to create overly structured positioning that looks nothing like our natural breasts. Your breasts are beautiful so there is no reason to create a look that is fake or false. Yes, if you have a date night, special event, or sexy dress you may have a go-to bra that creates more of a structured look than your everyday bras, but your daily bras should accentuate and highlight your natural beauty.
Full Support
All ladies turn to bras to provide support, and the larger your breasts the more support you require. Bras don’t just keep the girls perky but play a vital role in helping to maintain posture minimizing the weight strain and back pain for women with larger breasts. However, with the right straps, back coverage, and shape you can get the support you require without an underwire.
Stylized Undergarments
One of the other benefits of a wireless bra is they tend to come in options that are far more stylized than their underwire alternatives. You will require a variety of bras to meet all your needs for style, function, fit, and finish. Lace bras are less likely to have a wire and one of the fastest-growing trends in bras are day-to-day options that provide the comfort of a sports bra. This includes bralettes, bandeau bras, tanks and camisoles with bras built-in, and cross front side buckle bras. Many of these comfort bras are designed to be a bit visible, but the design is so cute that no one will know it’s a bra. For example, the lace may peek through on your bandeau when wearing a lowcut blouse, but most people will think it’s a camisole.

A More Sustainable Option
Handwashing your bras will extend their life but the wire in your underwire bras will likely make them wear out a bit faster, making wireless a more sustainable option. However, underwires aren’t the only contributing factor to how long a bra will last. Bras made from quality natural fiber blends like cotton are likely to last longer than bras made from synthetic materials. Bras that have a bit of stretch to them will be mixed with synthetic fibers so don’t count those out. If you machine wash your bras be sure to use a mesh laundry bag designed specifically for bras and hang them to dry. Never put a bra in the dryer. The heat from the dryer can alter the elastic band causing the bra to not fit as well.
Do Wireless Bras Make You Sag?
Wireless bras don’t have to make your breasts sag. It depends on the type of bra you wear. All of the wireless bras that I have used have all been very supportive and have given my breasts the right amount of lift. I find that unlined bras tend to provide less support, so I avoid those types of bras. I personally only use bras that are lined and have a good supportive structure. There are also wireless pushup bra options as well if you need an extra lift.
Getting a professional bra fitting is also a good idea to make sure you are choosing the right size bra. Wearing a bra that is too loose can cause your breasts to sag as well. Wearing a bra too small will cause spillage. When I got a bra fitting recently I found out I was wearing a bra that was too small. I thought I was a size 38DDD but turned out to be a 38H. Wow was I surprised. So getting a fitting I feel is an essential part in finding the right bra and preventing sagging.
How Should a Wireless Bra Fit?
There a few things that can help you figure out if a bra has the right fit.
- The band should sit flat underneath your breasts
- In the back the band should fit snug but not too tight
- Adjust the straps so they are supportive but not too tight
- Lean forward to make sure your breasts are fully sitting in the cups
- Breasts should sit perfectly in the cups. If your beasts are coming out of the bra then you need to increase the cup size. If the bra looks like there is a lot of space in the cup then you need to go down a size.

How to Measure Your Bra Size?
If you are not able to get a bra fitting here is how to find out your bra size yourself. You will need measuring tape. First you will need to measure your band size, which is the circumference just below your breasts. Then you want to measure your bust size, which is measuring the circumference at the fullest part of your beasts. Subtract the band size from the bust size. This number lets you know what your cup size is. Below is a bra size chart showing which cup size you are. So for example if your bust size is 41” and your band size is 36” the difference between those numbers is 5”. So your bra size would be 36DD.

How Often Should You Replace Your Bra?
Bras should be replaced every 6 months to a year. The more you wear a particular bra the sooner you will need to replace it. The best thing to do is to have multiple bras that you can change up, so you are not wearing the same bra every day. One sign that it’s time to replace your bra is loose straps. Have you ever had a bra where the straps kept falling down throughout the day? This is very annoying and lets you know the straps are not working affectively anymore.
Another sign that it’s time to replace your bra is when the back has gotten too loose. The band of the bra naturally loosens up over time. This is why there are multiple back hook adjustments, so you will be able to tighten the band over time. Eventually it gets to a point where the band is too loose even on the tightest setting. This is how you know it is time for a new bra. In order to maintain the right amount of support and lift make sure to watch out for these two signs.

No, You Don’t Have To Completely Forgo Underwires
Now that you understand the health benefits of wearing a wireless bra you might be tempted to head to your closet and toss your underwires—but that’s not necessary. Instead, invest in a few new wireless options and mix them into your weekly routine. The fact of the matter is you may have a few underwire bras that you love and that look best under certain outfits. And most, but not all, strapless bras have an underwire to keep them in place. Like everything else in life, it’s all about balance. Just be mindful of how long you wear your underwires and take them off or put on a wireless option when you get home for the day. Or enjoy the comfort of going braless at home.
Supportive Wireless Bra Options
Here are a few of my favorite wireless bra choices that work for me and some best sellers on Amazon.

This was another brand that I wore often as well and a best seller on Amazon. These go from a A cup to a D cup.

I’ve been wearing underwires for ages and you’re absolutely right about it. They’re so uncomfortable! Usually I can’t wait to go home to get rid of them everyday. I go with the brand “Bali” and wearing shoulder pads as well to avoid the cuts, still they are uncomfortable. I’ve never thought about changing them until I saw your article. This is an eye opener! Thanks a bunch for your suggestions. They look so comfortable:)
Yes they are very comfortable and supportive. Once you find the ones that works for you, there will be no looking back.
I think you convinced me to start wearing wireless bras! I like the look of wired bras, but you are absolutely right, I should love the shape my breasts are. What a way to word that! You made me feel empowered when you talked about that! I had no idea about the lymph nodes, so I loved that I learned something new. Wired bras are a pain in the rear, but I always wear them because they looked good. Thank you for changing my perspective!
Thank you! I’m so glad this convinced you to try wireless bras. I used to wear wired bras as well in the past, but they just became way to uncomfortable, so I decided to ditch them. I’ve been wearing wireless for years now and haven’t looked back. There are so many options to choose from I’m sure you will find something you will love.
